  SOAR Academic Placement Testing

WRITING
If you have not taken the SAT-I (critical reading, mathematics and writing) by March 1, 2008, or the ACT with the optional Writing test by April 12, 2008, you will be required to take the writing assessment during SOAR.  A $50 administration fee will be billed to your student account.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Placement testing in foreign language - French, German, Spanish, Russian, and Japanese - is required for all incoming freshmen who have taken one or more years of a foreign language in high school.

UE's general education requirement for foreign language is competence that is equivalent to one year (two semesters).  Achieving the necessary minimum score on the placement exam will satisfy the requirement.  Placement in an upper level foreign language course will provide students with the opportunity to earn retroactive credit.  Only one foreign language assessment may be taken.  The foreign language assessments are offered online; please refer to the SOAR mailing insert for directions for on-line testing.

MATHEMATICS
All incoming freshmen are required to take the mathematics assessment.  The Math assessment will be taken during SOAR.

SPECIAL NEEDS TESTING
The SOAR confirmation letter will indicate the assessments you will be taking and any necessary adjustments required by your major.  If you have any special needs for testing and did not indicate so on your registration form, please call the office at (812) 488-2500 so that we can make the appropriate arrangements for testing during the SOAR weekend.
